Turn your under-stairs cupboard into a Wendy house!

Armed with a sheet of MDF, an electric saw and some acrylic paints, I transformed my under-stairs cupboard into a Wendy house!small_Rebecca Jelbert understairs Wendy housesmall_Rebecca Jelbert understairs cupboard02

I painted the number of the house on a knob that you can pull to open the door, and cut out a roof shape from MDF. The small hinged door is not in view in this photo, but it worked out well as the children could just about crawl through it when the were babies. I cut out a small letter box into the door and many hours were spent posting miniature letters in and out of the house with Ella and Hugo!

I think I had just as much fun making the Wendy house as the children had playing in it. The path and grass were simply painted directed onto the carpet with acrylics, which proved to be relatively hard wearing, and on either side of the house I painted scenery; a field to the left and a more formal garden to the right. This particular under-stairs cupboard goes around, under the stairs so it’s quite spacious, but even the smallest under stairs-cupboard could be considered for such a makeover (perhaps a Christmas project for the holidays?!)….
